Getting Back To My Artwork

I am not one to give up no matter what the situation, stubbornness I guess. This past year has been a tumultuous one, I tried the Internet and invested a lot of money and we all know where the economy went, and so did all my investment monies. Water under the bridge, because I still have my creativity, and I have an abundance of it. I come from a long line of craft persons from my Great Grandmother and Grandmother who both made craft items and donated them to their church to handmade clothing for their children. My favorite gift from my Grandmother was a doll I received one Christmas with clothes and a coat made from some of my Grandmother's old coat and dress. What a great memory for me. So it comes natural to me to be creative, I have tried it all, sewing, knitting, macrame and much more. These days I am working with Clay: ceramic, polymer and Precious Metal Clay. Add in my love of beads and being lucky enough to live in Tucson Arizona the home of the Gem & Mineral Show each year and putting it all together is great fun and unlimited possibilities.
I live at the base of the Tucson Mountains and when we purchased this property in 1998, there was a Saguaro that birds had pecked a smile and two eyes into, one arm waved at us and so Smiling Saguaro Collectables was born.
At first I was creating indian pots and miniatures for my own family gifts and decoration, then after the Internet venture failed I nervously started making more and more items to ward off my business failure depression. Then the idea hit me, to create pieces for sale to the public that were priced so everyone in this economy could afford. I have a studio that faces the mountains and my family including my Granddaughters come to work in. After closing my websites to cut back my loses I decided to put what I learned from my Internet venture and apply it to a website that sells my own artwork. It is nearly ready to launch, in the meantime I have put things on Etsy, a wonderful site for artisans and crafters to offer their work. You can see some of my things at http://www.smilingsaguaro.etsy.com/ and soon Smiling Saguaro Collectables website will be available. I will be offering information and ideas to others in this blog and another called Beads-Clay-N-Silver with projects and patterns. I will offer bisque pieces to those that may want to make their own miniatures and designs.
I hope you enjoy.
